Oliver Cowmeadow is the school principal. He first began studying nutrition in 1980 and embarked upon an intensive study of Oriental medicine in London, America and Europe specialising in macrobiotics and shiatsu. Oliver moved to Cornwall in 1984 and later to Devon to start practising and teaching, and in 1985 set up the Devon School of Shiatsu, which has now trained many successful shiatsu practitioners.

In the 1990's he studied the emotional side of healing with courses in psychotherapy, rebirthing, past life healing and counselling, which he has now integrated with his use of Oriental medicine.

Oliver has two teenage children, raised from birth using macrobiotic principles and has written five books on nutrition, cooking and shiatsu (some of which are for sale - please see the Books to Buy Page).

Marijke De Coninck has taught yoga, macrobiotics, Eastern Philosophy and Diagnosis for the last 25 years! She has raised four children using natural health principles and her daughter Tine has joined her in teaching cooking and food energetics in Belgium and England. She is a sought after counsellor. In her lessons and consultations she integrates the physical, emotionsal, mental and spiritual aspects and brings a wealth of experience and insight to her classes. Marijke De Coninck
Tine Tomme studies psychology at the University of Ghent in Belgium. She was raised in a macrobiotic family and was fascinated by cooking and healthy eating. Together with her partner Kevin, they run their own catering company in Belgium and and has a 2 year old son. Tine regularly teaches in the Antwerp East West Centre, in Ghent, as well as the Netherlands. She is a very enthusiastic cook and teacher and her classes are very popular.
Mary Guyon became interested in diet in the early 80's, to help heal health problems within her family. She then studied widely in Britain and Switzerland, including with Aveline Kushi. Since moving to Devon in 2000 she has been giving individual cooking tuition in her home, and is the main resident cookery teacher at the school. Mary Guyon
Kevin Storms studied cookery at the International Cooking School in Belgium, and is a very experienced caterer preparing delicious food for leading centres in Belgium, Switzerland and England. He has a wealth of knowledge on cooking which he passes on in his classes.
Jean Netherway MRSS(T), has had a long term interest in nutrition, working with Weight Watchers for 4 years and has been incorporating Macrobiotics into her daily life since 1992.  Jean teaches the Food Energetics curriculum on the Devon School of Shiatsu Foundation course and on the Fundamentals and Looking After Your Health courses. Iso Barnden has worked for a number of years as an administrator for various charities. A language graduate, she initially worked as a teacher and translator, but has also been a traveller and a carpenter.

Iso’s interest in complementary therapies grows constantly, and supporting students and teachers at the school in the Devon countryside provides the perfect work setting for her.
